The Municipality of Viqueque is situated in the northern part of the country and is located in the south coast of the island, bordering Lautem Municipality to the east. Viqueque has very good potential for historical tourism, as it was a key resistance stronghold in the battle for independence. There is also scope for developing nature-based and adventure tourism. Viqueque has several popular attractions, such as Riki Raka Caves, Mount Mundu Perdido (the “Lost World” Mountain), We Lulik Hot Springs and Larigutu Waterfall.
Viqueque has a CBET “best-practice” establishment called Wai Lau Rini Lodge which is located in the Sub-municipality of Loihunu (in the eastern part of Timor-Leste). Loihunu, it can be reached from Dili by land transport in around 6-7 hours.
